Hansel and Gretel
Jae Yeon Ju, Jae Sang Yoo
An interesting phenomenon of virtual communication in modern society is that people feel incongruity between virtuality and reality while using SNS. People lose interest in direct communication with their local community at shared places. To solve this social issue, we used visual ethnography to observe how people respond to certain factors and form empathy with their communities on both offline and online. Using it as a base study, we developed a research for detailed empathy-forming mechanism. We then designed SNS that forms empathy on location-based communication in Smart City.

Guess Who?
Kyung Jin Hong, Kangeun Lee
Guess Who? Is a location-based smartphone app that helps Yonsei International Campus students make friends. Students are paired up based on common interests and start a game to try and find out their partner’s identity. By exchanging partial photos of the places they usually visit in Songdo, they will try to put together their partner’s daily route by guessing and visiting those places. Participants who complete the route first are rewarded with hints about their partner’s identity, and the person who guesses their partner’s identity first is rewarded a prize they can use with their partner to advance their friendship.

Re-Caffeine
Horyun Song
Re-Caffeine is the Personal Gamification of Recycle System. When a user approaches, the recycle bin recognizes the user, greets her with appropriate name (Hottie, RainbowSparkle…) and asks whether she wants to recycle or not. She doesn’t have to answer with a button. Just recycle! The user gets green points for recycling and her virtual trees in application grow. She can see not only her own, but her group’s forest too.The system especially focuses on disposable cups abandoned in and out of cafes, but seeks to integrate with whole public recycle system and motivate more people to recycle. Re-Caffeine is a small start to change people’s habit.
